Cassie Plummer: From Tyrone's long-lost mum to Weatherfield favourite in her own right

June 2023 saw the arrival of Cassie Plummer onto our screens as Claire Sweeney joined the cast of Coronation Street.

Cassie was soon thrown into the centre of a big storyline as she was revealed to be a drug addict who just so happened to be Evelyn's daughter... And, Tyrone's long-lost mum.

Tyrone had no idea that Cassie was his biological mother, with Evelyn initially making out that Cassie was simply an old friend. It wasn't long before Ty finally found out the truth though.

Cassie Plummer: A rocky beginning

Before entering Weatherfield, Cassie had a rough time of things. At a young age she ran away from her family and fled to South Africa shortly after Evelyn blamed Cassie for her father Harold's death.

Cassie had turned to drug addiction, eventually being spotted by Evelyn due to her association with drug dealer Dean.

Evelyn didn't want Tyrone to find out that Cassie was his mum and tried to help her daughter behind Ty's back. However, the truth always comes out in Soapland...

After a scary overdose in front of granddaughter Hope, Cassie worked on getting clean. She then opened up to Tyrone and Evelyn that she used to be a prostitute, with her dad finding this out just before he died.

Evelyn realised that Cassie was carrying this guilt for years and promised her that Harold's death was nothing to do with her.

Troublemaking on the cobbles

Finally being accepted as a proper part of Ty's family, Cassie moved out of her flat and moved in with her son and his family.

Whilst trying to get in their good books, her old scheming ways still resurfaced from time to time.

Securing a job at the garage, Cassie soon got on the wrong side of Kev and Abi. Desperate to catch Kev's eye, Cassie tried to come between him and Abi but failed to drive them apart.

She had tried to make Kevin think that Abi had caused a scratch on the customer's car when it was in fact her... The truth came out though when Roy told Kev the truth.

Fortunately, Cassie was given another chance at the garage without getting sacked but eventually lost her job when she later suggested that deepfake videos of Abi were actually real.

Cassie also created a sticky situation when she attacked illegal puppy farmer Terry and allowed Evelyn to take the blame. Cassie had stolen some money from him but tried to put things right by donating it to charity.

Coronation Street's Cassie: A fresh start

Now, in November 2024, Cassie's fast becoming a fan-favourite. She's clearly grown so much but still has her roots intact.

She's a loveable, rough round the edges character who is gradually being redeemed for her past schemes and difficult past, reminding us of Abi Webster.

Cassie's been given a chance and she's fully embraced this opportunity at securing a fresh start. In past months, we've seen her smile more than ever before as she strikes up a new friendship with Ken as his carer. Whilst she's not a complete saint (she does have her eye on Ken's premium bonds after all), it's nice to see her form more connections on the Street.

There's a huge heart inside of Cassie which is really starting to emerge, especially as she sparks up a romance with Steve. Happiness is around the corner for Cassie, and we're thrilled to watch her continue to grow!
